Stage 1 Performance Clutch kit for Audi A5 B8 S5 4.2 quattro 354 hp Petrol CAUA inc HD heat treated Bearing
RTS Performance Clutch Covers
Ductile Steel can be bent without breaking, hereas cast iron is brittle and breaks when bent. Ductile Steal consists of Steel, carbon, silicon, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous and sulphur. Tin and copper are also sometimes found. Ductile iron also consists of nodular graphite, which gives it flexibility. Cheaper / lower grade brands use Cast Iron covers as it’s a cheaper alternative and most often are made in either China or the Far East. Cast Iron covers are mass produced and often are designed to fit multiple applications to save on cost.
Using Rationalised designed covers results in clutch failure as we are finding many brands are now using standard Cast Clutch covers on Performance or Fast Road applications. Rationalised covers are not designed to withstand the power uprated or higher power torque levels. Rationalised covers fit a range of vehicles which all hold initially different standard levels or power. The covers are designed to hold a limited Torque capacity for various applications and cannot absorb or transfer the heat once any performance modifications are made to the vehicle. RTS Ductile Steel Clutch Covers are designed to fit each application only. We never use Rationalised designs unlike many competitive brands.
| HD (Organic) | Twin Friction | Paddle |
|---|---|---|
| Reinforced high copper friction material. | The aramid friction exhibits 50% less wear than a conventional drive plate friction material. | For the more advanced builds running higher power and for track use. |
Clutch Types
| Difference in Clutch Types | Rigid | Sprung | HDB Boss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rigid centre is adapted to DMF clutch kits. | The Sprung design has the springs within the clutch plate rather than the DMF, therefore it is suited towards an SMF setup. | HDB Boss is more advanced builds running higher power and for track use. |
Twin Friction
RTS unique “Twin Friction” (drive plate) has been developed using a unique flywheel side friction material whilst adopting a segmented pressure plate face. The aramid friction exhibits 50% less wear than a conventional drive plate friction material.
This material also reduces the effects of fade. Fade is the decline in the clutch system’s ability to transmit torque as operating temperatures increases. These features in combination with the previously mentioned micro-structure of spheroidal casting and ER2 technology allows the clutch kit to dissipate heat far more effectively, allowing the clutch to run cooler for longer.
RTS kit has been designed to transmit 60% more torque over the standard clutch kit and is suitable for every day driving, fast road and track/circuit racing whilst maintaining user-friendly driving experience.

Paddle
Due to its inherent design, engines are subject to rotating fluctuations. To minimise/prevent this, the NVH is absorbed by RTS unique clutch damper – function which suppresses the movement of the free, spinning gears and vibration transmitted to the transmission.
Paddle will hold more power as it has a ceramic pad material on both sides. This is more suited towards high power builds and non-daily / occasional track use. These performance clutches will have a heavier feel to it.
